Build Your Own Kit!
Start by choosing your wool: our JST-exclusive Freya in Vanilla (50% merino, 50% tussah silk) or our Merino in Natural. What’s the difference? The tussah silk in Freya produces a little more texture and sheen than the merino. Both yarns have amazing fulling capabilities and you get to decide when to stop while fulling. The pattern has all the information you will need to full these scarves. To get started, add either:
• 2 skeins of Freya or 2 skeins of Merino
• Plus 2 skeins of 30/2 silk in a contrasting colour of your choice
These scarves are a wonderful introduction to simple collapse weave. Your kit includes enough yarn to weave two stunning scarves, each finishing at approximately 12" x 75" plus fringe. All you need is a simple 4-shaft loom, a 10-dent reed, and a weaving width of 18".
In her sampling, Jane explored a few playful variations: combining Merino or Freya with silk in the warp for a half-checkered effect, then switching to all silk for a striped finish. Feel free to experiment! For reference, she used silk in Salt Spring Sky for the checkered sections and Glacier for the stripes.
