The back beam on my Jane Loom winds in the opposite direction of any loom I have ever woven on before.  Is this part of the design or is there a problem with the production of the one I have?

The Jane Loom beam does wind on differently than most table looms.   This is a design feature that makes it easier to get the paper into the roll when the loom is sitting on a table.  It is very difficult to get your fingers under the beam while sitting on a table, so with the beam rolling in the other direction you just have to stick the paper up, it catches and off you go.  Once you have done it a few times you will find it very easy, it is just different.
