how were the braids done?  twisted with no knots at the end?  does the wool hold the twist over time?

My gamp is starting with a weave that seems close and not like the gamp in the project…. it looks too tight.

I am using 8/2 cotton;  in a 12 dent reed, sleyed, 2.1.1.1. to get the 15 picks per inch.

I think something might be wrong with this… but maybe not, it is because it is a smaller yarn?IMG_4526

          thank you for your reply….

to ask another question… I have two looms.

One is a Cranbrook with 4 shafts, and 8 treadles…..

My question:  how can I use the extra two treadles, i.e.  if i do a 2/2 twill and then have two used for the PW…. could I do something like Jane did with the 10 treadles?  curious as to how use these extra pedals?

oh dear, it seems that the last half of this video taping was using an 8 shaft loom?  I only have 4 shafts so this won’t work for those of us that have only a 4 shaft loom…. I was a bit confused trying to understand this… can you get a weft predominant on a 4 shaft, and a warp predominant on a 4 shaft?

thank you for clarifying this section.

My daughter is getting married in September, I am wrapping this up for her bridal shower.  I used JST 16/2 warp colors bleached and ivory.  The ivory almost looks like gold..  The warp was Jaggerspun, white and vanilla.  Very happy, finished width is 15 inches … I had 8% shrinkage, and hoped it would be wider… length finished was 72 inches with 7 inch fringe on both sides… I hope my Emily enjoys this little surprise, maybe something she can use at her wedding, not a shawl but a nice wrap…. this pattern was perfect for my skill level and looks so delicately wonderful… thank you for leading the way on this for us JST!!fullsizeoutput_6ba4fullsizeoutput_6ba2fullsizeoutput_6b87

Thank you for responding so fast to my question about winding silk Sandra.  Now that I wound the silk from the skeins into balls, I will have to get them onto the bobbins…. I saw the video and am hoping this goes easy…if there are suggestions to make this an easier process please advise… I think I will put the ball into a large pottery bowl and see what happens…those early episodes need to be watched over and over again… always something to be applied as you go on this journey… thank you

A bit confused here… Clarification needed before I start to use silk on this scarf…

I bought silk skeins from JST store and placed it on a yarn swift and made it into a ball… thinking I would then move it from the balls onto my plastic bobbins using it for the weft in this project on scarfs.

Is this how it is done? or is more correct to place it from the skein unto the cones…. I was given tons of cardboard cones when I got my loom, (never used them) and I am thinking how would I use these cardboard cones?  I have a sectional warp, have not used silk yet for warping or weft.

Sorry this may be two questions.

How to move silk skeins  into the correct form for weft? and how to move skeins into a correct form for using for warp?

question: When placing your denting warps threads on the back beam do you space this out as well to allow for negative space? or do you keep them just as they come as you beam the threads on the back beam?

I thank the person who told me to double the red threads of 8/2 while using the Boucle in the weft with the other colors… it worked and something new was learned on how to mix threads.  All of these weave sessions are amazing. Fuzzy photo, and the EPI were changed in these tea towels from 18 epi to 12 epi. enjoyed it all.

July and I have started this gamp… love the challenge.

I am finding that I am NOT grabbing my end thread on each side as I weave. Seems to be random and I don’t think I need a Selvedge thread? Wonder what is happening…I am only the beginning of this project ..? suggestions as I try to figure out what is happening… the threads are hanging out there on the ends, not getting captured as I weave … plain weave? not twill. I don’t see a missing sequence in my threading.
