Thanks!   I actually had a lot more fun on this warp than I thought I would.  I need to order the next 2 kits but am going to order some extra colors as it seems like that is what is the most fun for me.

This was my first warp on my new to me Ideal which I am finding to be possibly my favorite loom, although there are things I love on ,y Standard as well.

I thought that might be the case…but I have a monster cone of cotolin in white so I am ok.  I just got done pulling out the red stripe and changing it to gray and resleyed at 12 epi and am super excited to see what weft I end up using now!

On another note, I think I have decided that I don’t like short warps.  I like a minimum of 10 yards.  So, I will have to add some extras to the kits when I buy them or at least make sure I have enough which will be great practice with math and all that.

Your eyes will just sweep by the double sleyed reed in the one spot.  You don’t really see it.  Really.  Having lots of fun, few issues warping as I’ve only warped the Standard once or twice?  Always a good idea to make sure the warp is centered EVERYWHERE.  Have a few tension issues due to this, but once I finish this towel I am cutting off and resleying at 12 epi as I found a bunch of knubbly wool/silk blends that look like fun 🙂

At what point will we need the 8 dent reed?

I just did some odd math on shipping.  Definitely ordering the samples yarn all at once, doing that actually about pays for a new reed.  I have 6 dent, 12, 15.  Of course I don’t have an eight.  I also need to order new texsolv heddles for my Glimakra, they are currently old hand tied ones and are about 10 inches.  And there is about 500 of them and I have plans for weaving very very fine linen, so need about 2500.  And then there are 4 more shafts and then a countermarch unit…and then a draw loom.

And this was supposed to help me use up knitting yarn! BWAHAHAAAA…

So, I thought the same as you and went and added all the yarns to a cart to see what the price would be.  Was just curious but it wasn’t as bad as I thought (especially compared to swedish cotton!)

My thinking is if I bought them all up front then I would actually save quite a bit on shipping.  However, the beauty is you don’t have to do any of the samples, or do one, or do one now and then another one next year.  My other thought was…its still a lot cheaper than travel and lodging for a weeklong retreat at any of the weaving schools.  (I don’t know about you, I still would love to go, but I would also probably scare the bejeebies out of everyone showing up in my pajamas and slippers!)

What a great idea!  I have sample cards for Bockens and Borgs and a few others, but not from JST.  Thank you!

Just read the email with the info for all the kits!  Super helpful!  I am considering ordering all of them at once to save on shipping, plus some extras to play with.  I don’t have a lot of weaving stash yet.  I was thinking some boucle, maybe linen and maybe some silk?  Are there any that you would recommend?  I do have some wool (quite fine stuff from CM) and cottolin.  And of course, a large stash of knitting yarn and homespun.

I was also thinking that at the end of the year I will have a rather large stack of towels, samples and maybe scarves!  Wooohooo!  The one thing I am really excited about is being able to come up with my own designs.  I’ve several projects that I have been afraid to start because I don’t know what weave structure will work best or if mixing yarns is going to be a disaster.  I just don’t have much weaving experience, so this is perfect.

Makes sense!  An 8 yard warp is doable, the page for ordering the sampler supplies don’t say what is included or how long of a warp.  I’ve a singles linen warp to try next, I might be a bit crazy.  I’m off to find an 8 dent reed for samples!  Thank you!

Fabulous episode 🙂  I am really looking forward to all the playing with color and design.  I ordered the sampler set, however I am wondering if there are supplies we will need in the next few months so I can order it once and pay for shipping once.  What if we want to put on a longer warp for the samples (big fan of long warps here)??   And of course budget for it!  Was also wondering what reeds we need.  I believe I have a 12 dent reed and a 15.  I need to get a 6 dent for mohair as well.

I’m thinking it would be great to put together a binder of some sorts to hold the pdf’s and snippets of cloth?  Would be fabulous to start that now and look back in several years!

I will need to buy a new raddle to do the mohair blanket.  However, I was going through my stash and I have an alarming black hole of Kidsilk Haze.  I also have a cone of 100% mohair that is 3/21 NM, and I have about 900 grams of that.  I’ve not done the math yet to compare, but i know that both are much finer than the mohair you use here.  I’m wondering if I did double strands if it would work??  I don’t really want a lighter blanket which is what I would get if I don’t double strand it.

I would really like to do magenta, orange and either purple or red so will need to order separate amounts anyway.  I just pulled a 22 yard warp off my loom and am rather peeved that I don’t have a warp to put on tomorrow!  I hate naked looms!  Thanks for the videos, I look forward to them every month!!
