Yes.  I have kept it threaded and dented but no longer have the cross sticks in.

        Hi Sandra,

Yes I forgot to mention that in fact the boucle did get caught in the raddle.  A couple of the warp threads wrapped around the nails even though I had used rubber bands across the tops to keep them slipping.

Mary I agree with Sandra.  I think the mohair will grab the reed and possibly the other threads.  I just finished making scarves with Jane’s denting kit and  used the 16/2 cotton and the 20/2 silk.  They work quite well together.  I’ve also done some leno (finger) weaving with the same yarns.  LENO Weave  Denting

            Hi Jane,

I just finished putting your boucle towel kit on my loom – 9 yards.  Can I use some of this multicolor warp in the turned twill episode for a couple of the drafts, esp since I don’t need to use a floating selvedge.  I can still put it on my 8 shaft baby wolf using a straight draw, can’t I?

            Thanks,

            Diane

I am weaving this table runner as a xmas gift for friends and will have left over warp. I’d like to make some bookmarks for my book group but I’m not sure how to cut the finished warp into more narrow strips for bookmarks.  The warp is now 14” wide on my loom.

I’m finishing my second scarf on the denting project using Jane’s denting kit.  I cut the first scarf off the loom as a sample.  I’ve left enough warp thread at the beginning for fringe but I need to leave enough warp between the 2nd and 3rd scarves for fringe as well.  I hemstitched the end of the second scarf and left about 7 inches of warp before weaving a spacer to start the third scarf.  Can I just start the third scarf allowing enough warp at the beginning for the fringe?

                  Hi again Sandra,

Another question about denting.  I just took my first scarf off the loom from Jane’s denting kit, washed it and am now pressing it.  I tucked in the loose ends at the selvedges as I was weaving but did not trim them before I washed the scarf hoping they would disappear in the fell.   I can’t really weave them in now so I’m assuming its ok just to trim them?

                  Thanks,

                  Diane

Thanks Sandra.  I have Jane’s denting kit and have already put 9 yards of 16/2 cotton warp on my loom.  I also purchased the 30/2 silk which I can use in the weft.  I was just wondering if she used 16/2 cotton warp on the different denting samples she was showing.

Hi Jane. I’ve watched this episode on denting a number of times and each time I get something new out it. I do have a question on the denting master set chart though. When you are showing the various materials for the weft is the warp always staying 16/2 cotton or is the warp the same as the weft eg for mohair zephyr or cashmere?

I have done a couple of rep weaves on my 8 shaft Schacht floor loom using 5/2 pearl cotton for the warp and thick and thin black for the weft (8/16 MB unmercerized thick and 10/2  thin ).  I used a 12 dent reed, 4 ends per dent and 2 ends per heddle, sett 48 epi.  The weft set was 48 rows (thick and thin) = 8″.  I did have to beat hard and keep the loom from walking across the floor.  But it worked.  Diane

                          Hi Linda,

re:  cotton boucle – no my question wasn’t answered but I did get alot of interesting responses.  My original question to the forum was
I want to weave the Birch Bark tea towels in the Mar/Apr issue of Handwoven.  The author uses Jane Stafford yarns including Jane’s cotton boucle.  She lists the boucle as 1500 yds/lb but on Jane’s website Jane lists her  boucle as 2300 yds/lb, available in 1/2 lb cones.  Which is correct – the 1500 yds/lb or the 2300 yds/lb?  Maurice Brassard’s cotton boucle is also 1500 yds/lb.  Thanks, Diane

Hi Mary,  can you share the video link?   I’m getting ready to wind a warp with two alternate colors that I will warp in random stripes on the loom  and would like to wind them together on the warping board.  Thanks, Diane

The black referred to in the Handwoven article is 8/4 cotton, not boucle.  I checked other sources for cotton boucle and Maurice Brassard cotton boucle is 1500 yds/lb.  Could there be a misprint on Janes’ shopping website?  Although on Jane’s master sett chart she shows the sett for cotton boucle at 12 – the article is using a sett of 18.  Even more confusing.

                                Hi Jane,

After having been a guild member for the last couple of years I’ve decided to go back and start from the beginning episodes and samples.  I just finished watching this episode and I’m not sure why you used chenille set at 15 epi for the warp and silk 30/2 at 15 epi for the weft.  Is that to achieve a balanced weave?

                                Thanks,

                                Diane

                                  Hi Jane,

I had some leftover 10/2 mercerized cotton in shades of greys/black and warped my loom to do the denting sample using 20 epi.  By mistake I put too many threads in warp and since I was doing this on my Asford table loom I knew I had to somehow get rid of the extra threads.  I took them off of each side and tried to hang them off the back beam.  But eventually I had to cut them off.  I ended up denting the reed  as follows:  in a 10 dent reed I sleyed 2 threads in the first 5 dents then skipped 5 dents. I repeat this thruout.  Although my final piece is too short for anything but a sample I was pleased with the outcome.  I now want to weave some ‘airy, lightweight curtains with denting.  Any suggestions for patterns, fiber, etc.  Again, another wonderful epidsode.  Thanks!
