Thanks Jane, for getting back to me. It is all starting to make sense. I’m sure it will be all the more clear when I sit down at the loom! ❤️
Wow, that was mind-bending! Your draft is beautiful. I watched the whole thing through last night so eagerly! I have been playing with turned twill on multiple blocks and my drafting has been very hit or miss. Thanks, Jane, for that comprehensive lesson, I’m gonna need to watch it a few times!!! I’m guessing that what you are calling “framers” might be referred to as background?
BTW, at the end of the “On the Loom” section there is a tie-up that requires 12 treadles and if you’re like me you might have only 10. If you google “Tim’s Treadle Reducer” you will find an algorithm written by Tim McLarnan at Earlham College that calculates how to do it on 10. You have to weave one block on a skeleton tie-up (5-8 on two feet). You can draft it in Fiberworks by selecting “allow multiple treadle action” under “Treadling”.
I used this and added a “C” block (the blue blocks inside the orange stripe) to a practice piece that I have been working on until Jane’s draft arrived. Can’t wait to get started on yours!!!

Thanks Sandra, they are wrapped up and gone now. Nice to think they might become someone’s treasured blankie!
I just finished hand sewing these hems last night and it was sad to finish this project— I loved the process so much. Tried to do most of Jane’s sampling ideas but turned them all into baby blankets for a rash of pending newborns. The warp was such an unusual and beautiful choice, nothing I would have put together but so fun to sort out the weft colors. I was a little concerned about the sett of 12 but it washed up really well (no bleeding) and tightened up just enough in a hot dryer. Can’t wait to gift these. I think I might just have to keep the first sampler for myself!

I put this warp on my loom wile watching the “Tea Towels with Jane” series of videos on her Facebook group. The draft is different but is symmetrical and has the the same wide center panel. I was trying to match a set of new/old Giverney-colored plates in blue and yellow (sounds a little lame, I know). The sett is 18 in assorted 8/2 cottons. Used Fibonacci numbers in various ways. Looking forward to weaving her set!
Happy to hear that it all worked out Shelley! I finished my weaving and am doing all the hand sewing on the hems now. Very pleased to know that the wet finishing worked out well, too. Cheers!
The same thing happened to my FS on the point twill gamp I’m weaving at the moment. The Brassard cottons are much softer than the Maysville but are not plied as tightly. I noticed the ends were splitty, too, when threading. Just be careful to get all 4 plies in each pass. I don’t think it has any affect on the weaving.
Thanks for your quick response Sandra, much appreciated! I was hoping that was the case. Now I can leap up and get back on it!
Thanks Sandra! I was winging it in some ways when figuring out the threadings and how they relate to the basketweave. I always try to come up with a piece that is useable when I try the gamps. The point twill was just released yesterday and it was set at 12 for a blanket. This one I sett at 15 so not quite as drapey as it could be. It is nice and heavy (and warm), though. Hope it fluffs up with a machine washing and drying.
April 28, 2020 at 10:43 am in reply to: Thoughts on 4.3.3 – Small Threadings Gamp at the Table #163839I turned the gamp into a blanket and did quite a bit of modifying (division of space into 5 instead of 6, etc.) The fact is I was so eager to get to the point twill that I combined some with the small gamp threadings. Some of the basket weave strips are not 2/2 but instead are 1/2 and 3/2 in some places. Not sure why this happened but I’m still pleased with the outcome!

If you are a member of Ravelry there is a lot of info on weaving with different fibers. Here is the tencel discussion:

Good luck!
October 23, 2019 at 9:38 am in reply to: Season 2: Episode 10 – Primaries & Secondaries on Black #106464A full year later and finally got around to hemming these—Christmas is coming! I loved the saturation on the black background. The twill was a big surprise, surprisingly sturdy and complex with the color blends.
That’s a great looking bag Ian!
Thanks Ginette~ It was slightly damp when I took the photos and after it had fully dried it became much more crepey. Beautiful draft!
Loved the kit colors and am so thrilled with my first foray into weaving with silk—the irridescence and saturation is just gorgeous. I could probably go further with the fulling- it is only lightly ruched at this point. I made only one scarf but am eager to do more!
