For the first twill lesson in Season 4, I used a walking tie-up for the 2/2 twill. I think my weaving is better because I have a smoother rhythm with walking. For this gamp, I think I need to switch to the tie-up shown in the lesson so that I can ‘see’ the patterns. My question is about using walking tie-ups for future twill projects. Recommended? Dependent on pattern or project? As a newish weaver, I don’t have first hand experience to judge.
It depends 😉 Think about the dance steps your feet would take for the project and the rhythm you would be happiest with, and tie-up that way. You can always change the tie-up if you don’t feel that rhythm developing.
Thank you. I think I’ll have room to play on this warp with the tie-ups and try out the dance, as you say. It seems silly, but of all the steps and stages of weaving, the act of changing the tie-up is my least favorite bit.
