I’m really enjoying Episode 7, may be my fav so far. As a relatively new weaver I never though of the basket weave used to replace plain weave. Thank you Jane for yet another tool in my weaving tool box! Can’t wait to start this weaving!

Hi Ginette and Jane
Thank you! Another very inspiring episode particularly for weaving blankets.
I live in Australia and won’t be using Harrisville Shetland which I presume will shrink a little to full the blanket. Also there is no reference to its thickness/weight.
If I was using machine washable wool (wouldn’t shrink) presumably I would set it much closer?
Cheers

Hi Wendy, I’m sure you could find a Australian fine wool that could replace the Harrisville Shetland. But, in the meantime – you are right, the machine-washable wool wouldn’t full and you would have to sample to get the sett that would give you the best results.
FYI – here’s a description of the Harrisville Shetland – it’s 2 ply and is fine at 1,800 yards per lb.
“This yarn is not made from Shetland Wool – rather, the name ‘Shetland’ refers to the size of the yarn and not the fiber content. The wool is a blend of an Australian fine wool and a hearty New Zealand wool that gives the yarn its luster.”

Love this gamp it’s really expressive. I know you mentioned about going into lace next year, I was just wondering if you intend to do overshot sometime? Just enquiring. Looking forward to setting my Leclerc Nilus up soon and get this one warped, and to experiment with other twill’s in this framed idea.

I know that Jane will be sharing her amazing Units, Block and Profiles workshop at some point down the road – and Overshot will be covered when she takes that workshop online. I just don’t know when. In the meantime, enjoy exploring what she has taught us about twills!
