Thanks Jane & Joan. I love making baskets and it’s been too long, so I better buy a kit quick.

Awesome. Haven’t done basket weaving in years. I have a Wisteria Vine that I prune tons off of a couple of times a year…. can I dry that and use it? Any tips?

Hi Jean, I’ve always wanted to try to weave with wisteria vine, haven’t found someone who has one 😉 I’m pretty certain you can as I have looked it up before online. If you weave with it, do post photos, it would be great to see!

A little late to the party, but I used a large wisteria vine as the handle and rim for an egg-basket style basket a good 35 years ago. 28 years ago my toddler thought it was great to sit in and eventually the handle broke. I may go gather some vines this spring and make another one. I miss weaving baskets. But please don’t tell my husband I’m taking up yet another hobby.

Fun! Haven’t gotten the basket weaving supplies out in too long. Going to get them out, dye up some reed, and get some prezzies made! Thanks!

Something I have always wanted to do. Thank you for the clear explanation. It is too late for this Christmas, but I have a year ahead of me! Happy Christmas for this year!

I just finally watched this. Besides a weaver I do sculptural pine needle basket weaving. I never had the desire to make a basket of this style. I do now! That was excellent. Thank you for including it. It’s nice to have these guild videos during our covid 19 hibernation days. So many projects I might actually get to and now you’ve added one for me. Thanks!

I have always been interested in basket weaving and I love this video! I have grapevine growing in our garden and I love plaiting Gymea lilly leaves. Maybe I can use this video and use both my grapevine and some leaves such as Gymea lilly leaves. I’d have to have an appropriate material for the twine. Gives me lots to consider and am eager to try!

Will do. During this period of hibernation due to the virus (I am lucky enough to be healthy!) I may get the chance to experiment very soon.

Oh dear! Another thing I want to make! I have really enjoyed this. It is a lovely, related little break. We did something a little like this at my guild a couple of years ago and made bread baskets, not that I needed one but it was a nice centre piece on the table. I really enjoyed it. I’d love to make these garlic baskets. I have been visualising them lined and hung by my loom, wheel, sewing machine etc. to hold things like bobbins, scissors and all sorts. Sweets?

I’m so delighted to see this video. I have been saying that basket making is next on my learning list after I get weaving under my noggin. Seeing this video, I’m ready. Very clear directions. Too late for gifts this year but next year the woven towels will be gifted in a basket. Whooppee. This year it’s only a single towel per gift. Last year I couldn’t do that. Thanks ladies

This is brilliant. When I had my Fiber Arts shop in Yorktown, VA (I am home in Montana now) it was just a natural to also include basketry in my inventory and workshops. My good friend Sue Legault taught for me, and I too only got into only a few of the workshops. One thing I noticed right off, is that fabric weavers LOVE baskets! We have them all over our studios!! I have one for thrums, empty bobbins, partial bobbins, odd bobbins, linen only, etc., oh, the the tools, sley hooks, small scissors – you get the idea! And it is weaving, so again, a natural craft to add to the repertoire. Thank you for including it!!

What a nice surprise! Now I’m going to have to scavenge around my area (coast range mountains in Oregon) to find neighborhood sources of rush, willow & other basket weaving supplies. Oh, well, it will get me out for walks in the woods. 🙂
