I was planning to put a fringe twister on my Christmas list. So glad I didn’t. Jane’s way is a breeze! Only I start at the left which lets the left half of the braid come first automatically.

Jane, Thank you for being such a thorough teacher. You explain everything right down to the smallest detail and leave nothing to guess about. I loved the fringe twisting video. Do you have any suggestions for putting small beads into the twisted fringe?
            Thanks,JoHanna

I have put beads on and it worked just fine. I simply threaded them onto the strands, alternating their heights and started twisting. A few go a long way! I love making twisted fringe!

On cottons such as placements or towels do you finish before or after washing? If before do you leave the piece full length to wash or cut the items apart?

                Thanks,

                Catherine

Hi, Catherine.  Personally, I zigzag the two “raw” ends of the fabric, wash, dry, iron and cut apart.  Then I hem knowing that the shrinkage has happened.  That’s just me – I’m sure others have their own ways of doing it.

Does the hemstitching keep the threads from ravelling?

I use a similar method : place the ends in you palm, slightly separated then roll them in the same direction, maintaining their  distance, with you second palm. Knot ends when desired twist achieved. Easier on my fingers.

Those twisted fringes are beautiful. I wonder what you do when there is only one strand left on the end.

I twist it with the remaining bundle 😉 There’s always one extra thread or 2 in my weaving!

If you have a multicolored outline, pigtails /I hope this is the correct translation/ create interesting effects.

In my experience with spinning, I think that the twist of the yarn should be respected when twisting. If I twist against the direction of the yarn twist, the fringes will look different than if I do it in the direction of the twist.
