According to the Master Sett Chart, Harrisville Shetland warp and weft for plain weave should be warped 8epi.  According the chart if I want something heavier, I should weave twill at either 10 or 12 epi depending on how dense I want the fabric. Problem – the warp and also the weft of my project are alternating green and white squares to produce a green/white check. I don’t want the diagonal lines of the green and white squares to show. Since what I want is plain weave all over, can I use either 10 or 12 epi and treadle plain weave? Or will this cause problems?

Hi Diane – my thoughts are that the Shetland will full and blur the lines, especially from a distance.  If you made the plain weave a denser sett, then you would lose some of the drape that you are probably looking for.  I’d suggest you weave a sample at the 8 epi and ppi, and full it to see if the lines are blurred enough to make you happy but you still have the wonderful drape.  Keep us posted!
