This is my first post on the forum. I treated myself to guild membership for Christmas and have been having a great time. Y new to me Louet Spring has been a dream and have woven mainly DDW, twill and plain-weave so far. Decided to do a sample of shadow weave today and had it all warped up read to go but have a problem. From having huge sheds on all my projects so far i am getting tiny ones now – worse on some shafts than others. I have checked the Texolv cords holding the lamms to check they aren’t caught. I have taken the locking pin out. I have checked my tie up. Any ideas? Thank you very much fellow weavers.

Well I am sure there are several possible solutions but I will offer one because it has happened to me! Check to see that heddles haven’t fallen off the end of the shafts and become stuck between shafts. This will stop the shed from opening properly. This happens because the shaft bar sometimes slips out and a heddle or two will fall off.

I’m still a novice weaver but I have an on going list of post its and reminders of my flubs which still doesn’t prevent me from making them over and over and over…
How about a twisted threading error? For example when you thread a 4 into a 3 and the 3 into 4? So when you lift one harness it traps the other harness? Hope this makes sense.

You won’t be able to weave your cloth if you leave it as it and one of the threads will break. Correct it before you start weaving and you’ll soon forget it was there in the first place!

Im having the same problem with my Spring on the turned twill we re starting now. I’ve been weaving on my Spring for two years now but when I get to 8 shafts in draft I have some shed issues also. I’ve checked all the obvious, rechecked all three times, can’t find why 2-3 sheds aren’t opening properly. I warp with pin in, all lams are level. Proper texsolv cords on the lamms. What hole from end of cords do you hook onto screw? I use second hole from end. When I take the pin out and start weaving, I have some that are really loose, is this right? All shafts have been checked for problems on wheels and shaft ends

Fellow weavers I have solved the problem. I now have a large and beautiful Louet shed once more. I just wish I knew how … But it was something to do with the treadles. I had checked all threading as you suggested nc345 and it was all correct. I checked the pesky heddles Nina, thanks for that suggestion. I went to bed in a sulk on Sunday and ignored my loom all day yesterday but then gave myself a talking to this morning. I looked at the treadles and noticed that I tied them much higher than I usually do so I took them all off and retied them making sure the screws were parallel to the ground. Now I don’t know if that was the problem because I might possibly have also correct a dodgy pedal cord fastened to the wrong screw. But I am now almost 100% happy again. 95% because it is a work day and I shouldn’t be playing with my loom at all.
Thanks to you all for your suggestions.

So pleased with your Louet sheds. Understood everything except “making sure the screws were parallel to the ground”. Do you use the same hole on the texsolv on all cords from lamms to treadle tie-up? If so, which one do you use from the bottom of the cord? I usually use the 2nd hole from the bottom. They look good when the pin is in, but some are very loose when I start weaving.
