        Hello all!

I am wanting to try my hand at weaving a scarf in M’s and O’s in 16/2 cotton for the warp and 16/2 Cottolin in the weft. Because this is a new weave structure to me, I am unsure where to start for sett. I am thinking because there is quite a bit of plain weave involved, but not entirely, I might start at 26epi? I’d like it on the drapey side, but I think a weave like this might need to have a little body?

        Any thoughts are appreciated!

Sorry to leave you “hanging”, Lisa!  I have never woven M’s and O’s in 16/2 so I was waiting to see if anyone else would weigh in on the question.  However, having said that – why don’t you try your 26 epi sett, weave a sample, cut it off and finish it.  You’ll then see if you are happy with the results.  If not, it’s easy enough to open it up more or …. by just resleying your reed.  Let know if you were happy with your results.

Thank you, Sandra! As a new returning weaver, I often forget that sampling doesn’t have to mean re-warping the whole loom, just resleying the reed! I will try it at 26 and see what happens.

              So, here’s a question…

If I sett it at 26 and want it looser and re-sley, it all works, but if I wanted it sett closer, then the resulting fabric would be narrower, correct? At that point it either is narrower or I need to rewarp, is that right?

2.2.3 – Introduction to Sample One

You’ve got it, Lisa!  Depending on your warp – you could add an extra bit of warp off the back.  I’d suggest in the middle so the tension on your edges is more controlled – the way that Jane demonstrated in changing the zingers at just after the 31-minute mark of Season 2, Episode 2, Lesson 3 – Introduction to Sample One.
