Finishing linen

I just finished my first linen warp with linen and silk weft
. It’s a shawl in blues and greens, plain weave with two huck lace borders. How should I wash it the first time? I’m thinking Dawn gently, dry then steam iron. I’d like it to be somewhat soft, as if it had been worn for a while. Your thoughts appreciated. Janet

          Hi Janet,

This project looks beautiful.  I would wash this is soapy warm water in the sink with a mild soap.  I try to not really squish my weaving when I’m washing it…just squooshing it up and down and then I rinse the same way and hang and let the piece drip dry.  Then a good press with good steam.  Linen just gets softer and softer the more you wear it.

Let us know how it goes.
